Colour coding your Mirage TV Cable Cloaking panel

MIRAGE TV cable cloaking panel

The Mirage TV Cable Cloaking Panel is supplied as clear toughened glass to European Safety Standard EN 15150. The panel is drilled to provide holes through which you can attach the panel to a supporting surface.

The panel is held away from the supporting surface by means of spacers that stand the panel off sufficiently for cables of up to 8mm diameter to pass behind.

Colour coding a Mirage Cable Cloaking panel

You might wish to make your Mirage Cloaking Panel as unobtrusive as possible. Or maybe you'd prefer to make a bright an vibrant statement of it. Whatever you wish will involve applying a colour or pattern to the glass. There are several ways to achieve this and many ideas of what looks good.

Colour can be applied using various methods - paint brush, roller, spray, contact film, etc. As an example, we have described a scenario below where the panel is required to blend in with the supporting surface - in this case an emulsion painted plain wall.

Remember, your creativity is the limiting factor and this is just one possibility. You may wish to match a colour or contrast to it.

Colour coding to match a wall

In this example we will be matching to the colour of an emulsion painted wall. Colour coding takes place by coating the side of the glass nearest the supporting surface (e.g. A wall). Several thin coats of emulsion paint should be applied to match the colour that the wall is painted. Time should be allowed for each thin coat to dry (do not try applying a single thick coat). When you are happy the emulsion is sufficiently thick to be obscure the panel can be turned over and the colour can be observed through the front side of the panel. You will now have a stylish opaque glass panel that has adopted the colour of the decor. Position your cables in place and affix your Mirage panel. Simple!

Once fully installed, cables to and from your wall mounted television are concealed behind a tasteful glass panel.

Notes:

1. Glass naturally has a very slight tint. This may prove evident after you have coated the rear face and may affect the way the colour is viewed. This perfectly natural feature is part of the beauty of glass and is unavoidable.

2. It is essential that the surface of the glass to be coated is clean and grease free. Nothing will adhere to a greasy surface and marks may be seen if not properly cleaned.

3. When applying coloured emulsion do so in thin coats. Thin coats will actually dry quicker than thick ones, so attempts to rush the job with one thick coat will not gain you speed.

4. A single thick coat may not adhere well and could peel. Several thin coats are better.

5. Make sure the coloured coating you have applied is allowed time to dry completely before attempting to mount or run cables.

6. When running cables ensure not to scuff them against the coated surface or you may scratch it off.

7. The Mirage Cloaking Panel is not intended to be invisible. When finally installed it will however help to hide the ugly cables that are necessary for your TV to function. You should only see a tasteful glass panel coloured or decorated to your individual taste.
